McDonald's Malaysia is owned and operated by Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd, the local licensee (developmental licensee) of the McDonald's brand. It runs more than 370 restaurants nationwide and employs over 15,000 Malaysians, with a stated plan to invest RM1 billion over five years to open 100 new outlets. The first Malaysian restaurant opened in Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, in 1982.
